Défi des bois

The Défi des bois is a fall cross-country and obstacle race held at Parc Terre-des-Jeunes in Victoriaville, Quebec. It is part of the Grand Défi de Victoriaville, presented by Fruit d’Or, and this year's event is the sixth edition. The format centers on a short 2 km loop, allowing the race to accommodate runners seeking a fast pace and groups preferring a less formal option than a typical road race. The loop incorporates grass, gravel, and trail sections, with obstacle challenges integrated into the cross-country running. The schedule features team relays, a parent-child obstacle course, and the Défi Entreprise. In the latter, five-person teams each complete a 2 km leg, with the option to walk or run. Prior to the races, Julie Bellavance from Cardio Plein air guides a dynamic warm-up. The Défi Entreprise concludes with tailgate-style food and beer, adding a social element for company relay participants after their laps.

Trail Pro-Forma

Trail Pro-Forma is a mountain trail-running day at Mont Gleason in Tingwick, Quebec, with races in September on the ski hill’s trail network. The menu runs from a 1 km children’s race and short 2.5 km and 5 km options up to 10 km, 18 km, 28 km, plus 6-hour and 12-hour D+ challenges for runners who want to stack as much climbing as they can. It is built for families, first-time trail runners, club runners, and competitive athletes, with official timing for most races and podiums for the main events. The courses use wooded trails, climbing, descents, and both technical and rolling sections, so the shorter races still feel like trail running rather than a road race moved onto dirt. The event has been based at Mont Gleason since 2014 and is in its 11th edition. Profits go to the fight against infantile glycogenosis, the Fondation À Notre Santé of HDA hospital, and trail maintenance at Mont Gleason. The program also includes solo and team orienteering, where runners use a map and compass to find control points, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced options; non-runners can hike, watch the entertainment, and share the local-product snacks at the site.

About cycling & running in Drummondville

Drummondville Training Notes

Running: Drummondville runners keep the scene small and steady, with the Saint-François River as the obvious local reference point. Locals use the city for base miles, short intervals, and tune-ups before bigger race weekends nearby. Run clubs do not show up in the brief, so the race calendar does more of the gathering. Course Des Chênes Toi! Bourret feels like the anchor event. The race covers 2 km. Trail Pro-Forma, Défi Gérard Côté, and Course des récoltes de Saint-Joseph keep the shorter-race legs honest.

Cycling: Drummondville riders have plenty to work with, from paved loops to gravel spurs. Les Cyclophiles de Drummondville is the local wheel to know, and the club runs Monday and Wednesday evening outings from 28 to 50 km. A group also rides during the day. Speed groups usually sit from 22 to 30 km/h and more. The ffgbg route brings the bigger climbing, with 60 km carrying 577 m of ascent. The short loop packs 386 m of climbing into just 3 km. Bonjour Printemps and Défi des bois sit on the anchor-event list.

Season: July and August are the best months, and most people get on their bikes to ride here then. Summer gives runners warm, rainy miles and gives cyclists long Z2 loops, weekday club rides, gravel on Rue Sherbrooke, and the usual noise of Autodrome Drummond through the season. Winter changes the rhythm fast. Snow and cold push running toward shorter steady work, while riding turns more selective, more indoor, or more cyclocross-minded. La Courvalloise takes over the winter mood with tubing, skiing, and snowboarding when outdoor training needs a reset.
