About cycling & running in HildesheimHildesheim Training Notes
Running: Locals run Hohnsensee when they want easy base miles and a clean loop feel. Hohnsensee running track goes along the Hohnsensee lake and on the Kalenberger Graben ditch. Hilde Run Club meets at the Trimm-dich-Pfad am Hohnsensee every Wednesday at 18:00 and regularly on Sundays at 10:00. Innerste Au running track keeps intervals simple along the river through the city. Waldquelle running route goes from Bergholzchen to Rottsberg when the legs need bite. Lange Dreisch running track goes through the nature reserve. The route is 5 km.
Cycling: give riders a proper home for road, off-road, track, mountain bike, and crossrad days. Locals use the Hi-Ring for a steady lap around the city area. The Hi-Ring is 73 km, starts anywhere, and suits riders who want medium work without making a whole day of it. Strong riders take the Hi-Ring counterclockwise, and everyone else rides clockwise for long descents and short climbs. The climbs sit on that counterclockwise lap, in the Leine Uplands, and toward Seesen on the edge of the Harz Mountains. GTF Kanalromantik, RTF Nordschleife, and Gravelride Sole und Erz work as anchor rides.
Season: May and June feel like proper build months because Adlumer Abendlauf lands on 2026-05-23, Never Give Up Hindernislauf lands on 2026-06-20, and Finienlauf lands on 2026-06-26. August keeps the city sharp because the Hildesheimer Firmenlauf lands on 2026-08-28. Summer runners stay around Hohnsensee, the Innerste river, and the nature reserve for Z2, intervals, and social miles. Summer riders stretch the legs on the Cycle path to art, Ambergau Cycle Path, Leine-Heide cycle path, and Innerste Cycle Path. Winter changes the mood, and the Haseder Silvesterlauf on 2026-12-31 gives runners a clean year-end anchor. Winter cyclists lean into steady base miles, cyclocross, and off-road work with the club crowd.
