Gran Fondo Nove Colli

Gran Fondo del Vulture begins in Piazza XX Settembre in Rionero, sending amateur road cyclists into the Vulture-Melfese area of Basilicata, southern Italy. This annual gran fondo draws mostly cycle tourists and amateur riders, not a professional peloton. Riders require affiliation with the Italian Cycling Federation or another body under the National Cycling Council, lending the event a club-cycling atmosphere. The race, which started in June, has run for over twenty editions, typically attracting several hundred riders and once exceeding 900 entries. The route varies annually but includes towns around Vulture-Melfese such as Atella, Barile, Rapolla, Melfi, Ripacandida, Venosa, Lavello, Filiano, Ruvo del Monte, and San Fele. The local amateur cycling union Il Velocifero of Rionero organizes it, also running other regional cycling events like I Castelli Federiciani, MTBVulture, and the cyclocross Trofeo MTB Sette Colli. The field is predominantly Italian, with a small contingent of foreign riders, and professional cyclist Domenico Pozzovivo has attended as a special guest in some editions.

Gran Fondo Marco Pantani

The Gran Fondo Marco Pantani is an annual amateur road cycling event in Italy, held in honor of Marco Pantani, the Italian climber nicknamed Il Pirata. It is open to everyday cycling enthusiasts, with chip timing for riders who want a measured effort and categories that include E-bikes and Under 18 participants. The routes use roads connected to Pantani’s own career, so the ride is tied to his racing story rather than just his name. Riders receive refreshment points on course, a guarded bike deposit, changing rooms, showers, a race pack, event photos, side events, and a pasta party after the finish; the event is also associated with Cesenatico FC.

About cycling & running in Forlì

Forlì Training Notes

Running: Locals run from the city centre when they want steady laps and a simple shakeout. The Montone river gives Forlì Green City Trail its line, and that race feels like the local off-road anchor. III^ Straforlì Run in the City gives the city-centre legs a proper test. IV^ Tin Bota Romagna Half Marathon, AL 4 FRAZIO', 10° Fuga Forrest, 2° Flowers Runner, V^ 10 km Citta' di Faenza, 100 Km del Passatore, and Ravenna Park Race 2026 keep the calendar full. The top 20 clubs get recognized at 2° Flowers Runner, so the small scene shows up.

Cycling: Locals ride Forlì as a base-mile town first. The flat routes run 4 km, follow the Montone river embankment, continue along the Fiumi Uniti, and reach the sea and the coastal beaches. The climbing routes start at 4 km with 106 m ascent. The climbing starts when routes point to Castel San Pietro Terme, Villagrande, Ozzano dell'Emilia, Urbino, Rocca delle Caminate, Monte Busca, and Barbotto. Granfondo Terre del Sangiovese, Fiandre Cesenati, Nove Colli, Gran Fondo Marco Pantani, Granfondo Riccione, and Giro del Mito are the anchor names.

Season: May and September suit Forlì best for cycling, and runners get the same clean rhythm for intervals, Z2, and longer weekend work. Summer in Forlì turns hot and sunny, and temperatures can exceed 30°C during the harder weeks. Locals go early, keep the flat river lines honest, and save the bigger road or MTB days for cooler windows. Winter brings cool, moist days and frequent fog. The city centre still works for running, while cyclists lean into flatter spins, shorter loops, and steady base miles until the Sirocco briefly warms things from the south.
