Wings for Life World Run

The Wings for Life World Run begins simultaneously worldwide. Participants in organized flagship events, small group runs, and individual app runs all start at 11:00 UTC on a Sunday in early May. This global charity race, held annually since 2014, directs its entry fees toward research for spinal cord injuries, managed by the Austrian Wings For Life foundation. The race format is straightforward yet distinctive: there is no set finish line. Thirty minutes after the start, a catcher car commences its pursuit from behind the runners, gradually increasing its speed. Each participant's race concludes when the catcher car overtakes them, with the overall winner being the individual who travels the farthest distance before being caught. The event unites professional athletes, recreational runners, novices, and wheelchair users within a single global leaderboard. Flagship runs feature an actual catcher car, whereas app runs simulate the chase for those running independently or in smaller local gatherings. In Poland, the primary flagship event takes place in Poznan. The course commences at the Poznan International Fair, proceeds along Roosevelt Street towards the Kaponiera roundabout, and continues past Adam Mickiewicz University. Adam Malysz has previously driven the Polish catcher car, integrating the moving finish line into the local spectacle and the race's fundamental rule. The foundation supporting this event was established by Heinz Kinigadner and Dietrich Mateschitz following severe spinal injuries sustained by Kinigadner's family, establishing a direct link between the race and the medical cause it supports.

tower triathlon double triple iron man challenge

The Tower Triathlon Double & Triple Iron Man Challenge is a three-day ultra triathlon held in Bolesławiec nad Prosną, within Poland’s Łódzkie region. The event is centered on the local lagoon and the Baszta Bolesławiec stadium, offering Double and Triple Iron Man races for solo athletes alongside relay options, positioning it beyond a standard long-distance triathlon. The Double distance includes 7.6 km swimming, 360 km cycling, and 84.4 km running. The Triple distance increases these to 11.4 km swimming, 540 km cycling, and 126.6 km running. The swim begins in shallow water near the lagoon beach, with athletes exiting the water after each lap in an Australian-exit format before re-entering. Electronic timing is managed by Foxter Sport, and each participant uses two timing chips on their legs. Strict rules require competitors to provide proof of a recent full Ironman finish, sign health and liability documents, and refrain from receiving support during the first transition. Relays involve chip handovers at T2 for the run leg. Fundacja Dashrade and Sebastian Gwiazdowski are the race organizers.

zalecze ultra run

The Załęcze Ultra Run begins early, with the 60 km race starting at 6:30 a.m. Participants have 10 hours to complete the distance. The event is centered around Kamion and Załęcze Małe in Poland's Łódzkie region. The listed edition takes place on a July race weekend. Beyond the ultra, the program includes a marathon, a forest half marathon, a 5 km Run for Fun, and a 5 km Nordic Walking option. The 60 km run is limited to 60 starters, keeping the ultra field smaller than the overall event limit of 660 places. A route map and GPX file are available for participants to review the course beforehand. The program also features children's races and a 42 km Majdller Bike Race, positioning it as a local outdoor sports festival rather than solely a running event. Stowarzyszenie Atelier Sportu organizes the event, now in its third edition.

About cycling & running in Wieluń

Wieluń Training Notes

Running: Locals keep running simple in Wieluń, with the Lasek Miejski loop, park alleys, the city stadium area, Planty miejskie im. Jana Pawła II, and the three city parks all close enough for weekday laps. Wings for Life World Run uses a 5 km repeat on May 10, 2026. Local Runs Wieluń feels useful because it was built by a runner for runners and lets people share local training routes. WKS Wieluń, MKS Wieluń, Junior Wieluń, MLKS Wieluń, and MUKS Pamapol Siatkarz Wieluń keep the small scene visible. Wieluńska Piona and Masowy Bieg Uliczny Pętla Wieluńska are the obvious anchor races.

Cycling: Cyclists in Wieluń get a bigger menu than you expect, because Bikemap lists 140 routes around town. Sekcja Cyklistów „Relaks” is the name to know, and the group meets every Sunday at 10:00 AM in front of the Poviat Starosty building. The Relaks season opener on May 1, 2026 rolled about 30 km round trip to Przywóz, so it works as a proper anchor event. The route covers 7 km with 294 m of climbing. The Wyżyna Wieluńska is where you look when you want the climbs, not just Z2 base miles.

Season: June and July are the sweet spot here, and most people get on their bikes in those months. Summer gives runners easy laps through Lasek Miejski, Planty miejskie im. Jana Pawła II, and the park alleys, while cyclists can stretch from a short Stare Sady spin to a gran fondo day on Szlak Jury Wieluńskiej. The cycling season with Sekcja Cyklistów „Relaks” runs until September, so Sunday rides keep their rhythm. Winter moves the mood, with runners keeping intervals tighter around town and the artificial ice rink on os. kard. Wyszyńskiego running every year from October to mid-March.
