About cycling & running in HalmstadHalmstad Training Notes
Running: Locals run Galgberget because the hill sits one kilometre from the city centre and gives rolling, asphalt-free exercise circuits of up to five kilometres. VarjeSteg meets on Mondays at 18:00 by The lookout tower on Galgberget, with 60-75 minute sessions from Stendahlsvägen 2. Norre katts parkrun starts and finishes in Norre katts park and runs two laps along paths on both sides of the Nissan. Prince Bertil’s trail gives you 18 kilometres from Halmstad castle to Tylösand’s dunes. Skedala forest trails sit just over ten kilometres out. Vårruset, Prins Bertils Halvmarathon, and Blodomloppet Halmstad are the anchor race names.
Cycling: Locals ride coastal base miles west and proper gravel east. The Kattegat Trail runs 390 km along the coast from Helsingborg to Gothenburg, so it is the easy Z2 choice when the wind behaves. Hylteleden starts and ends in Halmstad and gives 180 km through forests and lakes. Simlångsdalen sits 15 km from the city centre and becomes the gravel start when you want climbs. Simlångsdalen gives 7 km with 900 m elevation, while GGnG Stage 2 2025 starts at Wapnö and gives 146 km with 2000 m elevation. Gravel Grit’n Grind Halmstad is the anchor event.
Season: Spring, summer, and autumn are the good months here. Summer brings warm days, Laholmsbukten air, and easy doubles when you can run Galgberget early and spin the Beach Loop later. Locals use Prince Bertil’s trail and Tylösand for steady coastal running when the legs need rhythm. Cyclists point east for deep forests, mirror-like lakes, and long challenging sections of wilderness gravel when the gran fondo itch shows up. Winter sits around the freezing point, so runners keep the city paths and illuminated circuits useful. Cyclists keep the gravel bike ready and shorten the day when the roads bite back.
