Mobile Marathon

The Mobile Marathon begins and ends at Mardi Gras Park on Royal Street in downtown Mobile, Alabama. This January road race offers multiple participation options: a full marathon, half marathon, full marathon relay, half marathon relay, and a fun run. The race is closely associated with the First Light Community Foundation of Mobile, with all events supporting its mission. First Light Community of Mobile establishes shared residences where individuals with and without intellectual disabilities reside together, giving the weekend a local charitable objective beyond the finish line. Infirmary Health is the presenting sponsor, and Walters Controls, Inc., a Mobile company established in 1995 with over 25 years in HVAC controls, is a title sponsor.

Keesler Federal Battleship 12K

The Keesler Federal Battleship 12K is a 7.45-mile run and walk in Spanish Fort, Alabama. It begins at 8:00 AM CST and concludes at Battleship Memorial Park, adjacent to the USS Alabama. Established in 2015, the race honors military service, particularly veterans who did not receive public recognition akin to that given to many World War II veterans. Both runners and walkers are welcome, with a 2.5-hour time limit, allowing for a 20-minute-per-mile pace. The event emphasizes its purpose from the outset, featuring patriotic opening ceremonies and the National Anthem prior to the start. Approaching the finish, participants enter Battleship Memorial Park and receive small American flags for the final segment. Civilians, active-duty military personnel, and veterans congregate near the finish line, where "Thank you for your service" is a common sentiment. The race utilizes the hashtag #RuntoHonor, reflecting its straightforward objective: a community run centered on public appreciation for those who have served in the armed forces.

About cycling & running in Mobile

Mobile Training Notes

Running: Locals run Downtown Mobile when they want steady base miles without thinking too hard. The 7 mile loop runs on Government Street, Dauphin Street, and Old Shell Road through shady, tree-lined neighborhoods. The 4 mile perimeter loop works when you want simple Z2. Glenn Sebastian Trail gives TrailYeah a Wednesday 6:00 PM run from the University of South Alabama trail head. MOB Pacers meets Monday and Thursday at 5:45 PM at Christ Church Cathedral for 5 miles. Port City Pacers, Mobile Marathon, Mobile Half Marathon, Jailbreak 5K, and Keesler Federal Battleship 12K keep the calendar honest.

Cycling: Locals ride flat first, then go hunting for little punches. Blakeley State Park gives riders over 16 miles of trails and a paved bike path loop of about 9 miles. Eastern Shore Trail keeps the coastal spin long, flat, and beach-y with classic water, sand, and beach shack views. Mobile Bay Riders Cycling Club runs the local group-ride orbit, with member meet-up rides through the club Facebook group. Mobilians On Bikes Rides and ProCycle and Tri Shop Rides fill in more wheels. Crossley Hill Dr gives the named climb, and West Mobile gives dirt, gravel, sandy sections, and intervals. Pedal Through The Pines works as the anchor event.

Season: October treats both sports best because the month runs slightly drier than the rest of the Gulf Coast year. July and August bring the wettest stretch, and locals shift runs and rides early when the heat and humidity get heavy. Summer base miles still happen, but Mobile rewards shade, water stops, and honest pacing more than big midday efforts. Winter stays mild and rainy, so runners keep Mobile Half Marathon goals alive while cyclists keep group rides rolling between wet spells. January can still surprise you, because Mobile Half Marathon race morning has been 45°F with a 12 mph north wind and 70% humidity.
