About cycling & running in Twin FallsTwin Falls Training Notes
Running: Locals run the Snake River Canyon Rim Trail first, because the paved line sits right on the rim and keeps Perrine Bridge, Shoshone Falls, and the Evel Knievel Jump Site in the picture. The trail runs 7 m, so easy Z2 can turn honest fast. Rock Creek Park gives locals pathways when they want something lower-key. The loop around the lake is 8 km. TRIBE PTO for Student Engagement Activities, Investing in Buhl Education, and Popplewell Elementary are the named local groups. Rim2rim Race4homes, Great Pumpkin 5K, Spirit of Magic Valley, and Outlaw Trail Ultra Half Marathon are the main races.
Cycling: Locals ride pavement, gravel, and canyon grades in the Magic Valley area. The route runs 2 km and gains 224 m across mixed gravel and pavement. The loop is 1 km, and the hills to get out of Shoshone Falls Park are very steep. The route runs 5 km with 236 m, with long straightaways for sprints or intervals past the creek. Trek Bicycle Twin Falls sits at 1542 Fillmore St. Spudman Triathlon and Spudman Sprint are the anchor race names. Mount Harrison gives the Albion Mountains climb, and Auger Falls Trail System gives singletrack.
Season: Summer months suit Twin Falls best, especially when base miles, long rides, and steady canyon runs need dry roads. Summer and autumn stay very dry from June through October, and fast-moving intense electrical storms are uncommon here. Locals ride the Canyon Rim when BASE jumpers are on the bridge and people are in the parks. The Snake River Canyon keeps the north edge interesting, while the broad plain south gives steady Z2. Winter changes the rhythm more than the routes. Twin Falls proper usually avoids single storms over 6 inches, but snow still pushes runners and cyclists toward paved paths, shorter loops, and cleaner windows.
