Marathon 4 Alzheimer - Angers

The Marathon 4 Alzheimer in Angers is a French charity race series event supporting Alzheimer’s research. Located in Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, the Angers race emphasizes a relaxed atmosphere with no stopwatch rankings, allowing participants to run or walk. Runners can select a 10 km loop, a half marathon distance (two loops), or the full marathon. The event prioritizes fundraising alongside athletic achievement, encouraging participants to advocate for the cause and share their involvement online. Those unable to continue after 1 hour 20 minutes may stop and cheer on others, aligning with the event’s inclusive, community-focused design. A remote “connected neurorunner” option allows individuals to complete 42 km from any location. Post-race, Angers offers attractions like Terra Botanica, the Jardin des Plantes, the château, Cathédrale Saint-Maurice, Musée Jean-Lurçat, the Apocalypse tapestry, and local foods including gouline d’Angers, pomme tapée d’Anjou, and botteraux.

Trail de l'Apocalypse

Trail de l'Apocalypse is a semi-nocturnal 10 km trail race held in Angers, Maine-et-Loire, within France's Pays de la Loire region. It is a short evening run, featuring approximately 80 meters of elevation gain. The challenge stems from the trail environment and diminishing light, rather than extreme distance or significant altitude. The race name connects directly to Angers: the city's medieval Château d'Angers is home to the renowned Apocalypse Tapestry, providing a local theme. This event is for runners seeking a concise trail run with a subtly dramatic ambiance. The entry fee for the 10 km race is listed as 15 euros.

About cycling & running in Angers

Angers Base Miles

Running: Locals run Angers through parks first. Parc Balzac gives you a 4km route when you want easy Z2 without overthinking it. Lac de Maine gives you a loop slightly over 5km when you want water beside you. Étang Saint-Nicolas gives you 5km and 7km loops, and the trail is fairly good, if a little rough in patches. The cathedral stairs route gives you 103 steps for intervals. Angers SCO is the local name in the brief. Tout Angers Bouge, Sco Angers Run, 10 km d'Angers, and Marathon 4 Alzheimer are the anchor races.

Cycling: Locals ride from Angers because the city sits at the crossroads of La Loire à Vélo, Vélo Francette, and Loir by Bike. The route from Loire-Authion to Savennières takes about 2h 30min at an easy pace. The Maine gives you classic cycling along the banks before the road opens toward the Loire. Gravel riders use mixed terrain here, so wider tyres and dropbars feel normal. Nature is Bike is the anchor gravel event in June. Climbs are not the story, because the brief names no hills or mountains.

Season: Summer gives Angers warm, sunny months, and locals use that for base miles, longer rides, and easy runs beside Lac de Maine or the Maine. Bouchemaine adds a summer cycling rest area with a washdown station and information kiosk, so rides on the main route feel simple. The temperate Angevin climate keeps running steady through the year. Winter brings little frost or snow, so training rhythm changes but you can keep running and riding year-round. Locals keep Z2 work alive, use Parc Balzac or Étang Saint-Nicolas for short loops, and save hard intervals for clearer days.
