La Caussadaise

La Caussadaise begins and ends at Stade Firmin Daudou in Trélissac, Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine. This mid-June trail event takes place in natural forest settings, offering adult distances of 5 km, 13 km, and 18 km. Additionally, there is a 9 km untimed walk requiring a bib. The 5 km course is suitable for beginners from the minimes category, the 13 km is open to cadets and older, and the 18 km is for juniors and above. Children can participate in the Kid Trail, featuring an 800 m run for younger categories and a 1.8 km run for benjamins. The races venture into the CRAPA forest, with organizers hinting at unexpected paths and turns. The 13 km, the most frequented distance, has been included in a departmental challenge. The 18 km offers a substantial option for regular trail runners without being an ultra-marathon. The race evening features a sports village with partners, local artisans, producers, bib collection, refreshments, and entertainment. A paella meal can be pre-ordered during registration. Each participant receives a commemorative gift, and a team challenge for companies or associations requires three runners per team. The event, which reached its 16th edition, typically maintains a modest scale, capped at 500 participants, with recent fields numbering in the low hundreds.

Triathlon de Trélissac

The Triathlon de Trélissac takes place in late August in Trélissac, located in the Dordogne department of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, east of Périgueux. The event features short-format triathlons: the S race includes a 750 m swim, a 20 km road bike leg, and a 5 km road run, while the XS race consists of a 400 m swim, a 10 km bike leg, and a 2.5 km run. Children's races are also part of the program, making the day suitable for participants of all ages and experience levels. The courses wind through the town and its environs, with event categories listed under city, nature, lakes and ponds, and children’s/junior divisions. The competition is designed for a wide range of participants, from novices to seasoned triathletes, and some entries also classify it as a duathlon. Trélissac is situated in the eastern suburbs of Périgueux, bordered by the Isle river and traversed by the N21, offering a distinct small-town Dordogne atmosphere instead of a metropolitan ambiance.

About cycling & running in Périgueux

Périgueux Training Notes

Running: Locals run easy along the Isle river when they want clean Z2 and no drama. The city centre gives you quick laps through Cité and Puy-Saint-Front before work. Périgueux Running keeps the trail crowd honest and organizes the Grand Périgueux Nature Trail. The Grand Périgueux nature trail gives runners 8 km, 12 km, and 25 km options, with the 12 km course taking 300 m and the 25 km course taking 600 m of gain. The Semi-marathon de l'ASPTT Grand Périgueux and the 10 km du canal de Périgueux work as anchor races.

Cycling: Locals ride the Isle Valley greenway for steady base miles, because the route alternates road cycling and greenway along the Isle river. The city centre works well by bike for crossing Périgueux, getting to the market, and moving between quartier sud, Cité, and Puy-Saint-Front. Le Cyclo Club Périgueux Dordogne 24 carries the racing side, with Le véloce club and CYCLO CLUB PERIGOURDIN in the local story too. The Critérium Cycliste de la Ville de Périgueux gives the calendar its crit edge. Périgord roads climb enough, so locals say it is not the Alps, but not the Netherlands either.

Season: Spring and autumn suit both sports best, because the oceanic weather keeps Périgueux mild enough for long runs, longer rides, and proper intervals. Summer brings warm to hot days, so locals take the Isle river early, keep Z2 honest, and save harder work for cooler slots. Winter stays cool to mild, which keeps running alive through Les foulées roses de Périgueux, Christmas Campus Run - Perigueux, and steady club habits. Cyclists use winter for base miles, cyclocross legs, and quieter greenway rides before the Duathlon de Périgueux and Triathlon de Trélissac come back into view.
