Seine marathon 76 - Rouen

The Seine Marathon 76 begins on the quays of the Seine in Rouen, Normandy, with the river alongside the runners from the start. It is a road-running event offering a full marathon, half marathon, 10k, 5k, and children's races, catering to marathoners, shorter-distance runners, families, and beginners. The event takes place on a Sunday in late September and provides practical race support, including pace setters, aid stations, toilets, and bag check. The course allows runners to see Rouen's historic center while remaining connected to the Seine, the 777-kilometer river flowing through Paris to the English Channel. Rouen marks the furthest inland point for ocean-going vessels on the Seine, placing the race on a river section with significant port history. Post-race, attendees can enjoy food trucks, a refreshment stand, concerts, and children's games. The children's program is extensive, featuring eight special races, along with snacks and medals for young participants.

Trail des 3 Moutons

The Trail du Ventoux is a mountain trail race held on Mont Ventoux in Vaucluse, southern France, taking place each March since 2004. The main race begins in Bédoin, looping over the summit. Runners ascend from the village onto one of Provence's most exposed mountains. A typical long course covers approximately 46 km with over 2,000 meters of elevation gain, and a shorter 26 km route is also available. The participants include both amateurs and professionals, attracting skilled trail runners from France and neighboring nations. The course utilizes the mountain terrain, not just the road. It passes an ochre quarry, crosses near the Madeleine pass road, and ascends technical paths toward Pouzaraque and the tête de Chauva before reaching the summit via the D974 from higher on the slope. The descent follows GR trails through locations like combe la Grave, collet Rouge Haut, and combe de Malaval, passing old shepherd shelters before the final return through vineyards near Bédoin. Serge Jaulin and Christine Grouiller founded the event, with the start location shifting over the years between Bédoin sites such as Bélézy, the village center, and Domaine des Florans. The race has also served as the venue for the French Trail Championships, including a challenging championship race affected by wind and snow.

About cycling & running in Rouen

Rouen Miles, Seine Rhythm

Running: Rouen runners use the Seine as the daily metronome, then duck into the old streets for rhythm and corners. Locals start near Jean d’Arc Bridge by Old Town, and the bridge-to-bridge loop gives up to 8 km between Gustave-Flaubert Bridge and Pierre Corneille Bridge with 34 m of elevation. Parc de la Presqu’île Rollet and Prairie Saint Sever keep easy Z2 honest. Cultural jog circuits run 7 to 9 km from Planète Bien-être near Place du Vieux-Marché at 9:30 a.m. ASPTT Rouen Athlétisme and Club Nautique et Athlétique de Rouen are the club names to know. Urban Trail de Rouen, Ekiden de Rouen, Les foulées du CHU de Rouen, and Seine-Marathon 76-Rouen anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Rouen riders get plenty without leaving the metro area, from Rouen > La Bouille to Rouen > Elbeuf, Route des Moulins, and Parcs et Jardins. LOVELO gives the city and its metropolitan area 90 stations, and the first half-hour always comes free. VC Rouen 76 brings the real lineage, because Véloce Club Rouen was founded on March 9, 1869 and still runs as the oldest cycling club in operation. Groupe de touristes rouennais adds another local name. The côte du monumental sits in the north of the city, tougher sections sit east of the medieval center, and côte Sainte-Catherine is where locals go to eat the climb and finish on the panorama. Triathlon et Duathlon de Mont Saint Aignan gives riders a sharp anchor.

Season: March to November gives Rouen its best outdoor months, so locals stack base miles before the calendar gets crowded. Summer puts more river cruise traffic on the Seine in high season, and the quays still work well if runners keep the session tidy between the bridges and riders roll out toward La Bouille or Elbeuf. Winter drops Rouen outside that best-month window, so the city centre becomes more useful for short intervals, steady Z2, and club consistency. Locals keep the parks, the left bank, and the cultural jog circuits in play, then save the urban-forest route and côte Sainte-Catherine for days when the legs want 280 m of gain.
