The Royal Ten

The Royal Ten begins at Koningin Marialaan 9 in Den Haag, taking place on a Sunday near the end of May. This paved road race offers four distances: 1 km, 1.5 km, 5 km, and 10 km. The shorter distances accommodate adapted-sport participants and young runners, while the 5 km and 10 km events feature men’s, women’s, and business-run categories. The event, also known as Royal Ten 4 All, caters to competitive adults, company teams, youth runners, and adapted-sport athletes. Entry is limited to 3,000 participants, and advance sign-up is required as on-site registration is unavailable. Stichting HRR Wegwedstrijd, affiliated with Atletiekunie, organizes the race, providing race-day support such as public transport access, first aid, an AED, and a supervised cloakroom.

Dobbeloop

The Dobbeloop is a small monthly recreational race around the Dobbeplas, a lake area between Pijnacker and Nootdorp in the Netherlands. Organized by the Nootdorpse IJsclub, it caps participants at 300, making it more of a local club event than a large-city road race. Runners can select from seven distances: 0.75 km and 1.5 km for youth, and 3.2 km, 5 km, 6 km, 10 km, and 15 km for adults. The course is situated in the nature reserve surrounding the Dobbeplas, with the start at Oudeweg 74 in Nootdorp. A 6 km walking option is also offered, suitable for those seeking a relaxed outing instead of a timed run. For a modest event, practicalities are handled: changing rooms, showers, parking, first aid, and an AED are provided, and late registration is permitted if spots are available.

CPC Loop Den Haag

The CPC Loop Den Haag starts and finishes at the Malieveld, with the various races beginning on Koningskade. This annual running event in The Hague, held since 1975, features a main half marathon of 21.1 km. The program also offers shorter races of 10 km and 5 km, youth races of 1 km and 2.5 km, and the NN CPC4ALL. Therefore, the day accommodates more than just serious half-marathon participants. The race name originates from City-Pier-City, and the course has a strong history of fast half-marathon performances. Samuel Wanjiru set a world record of 58:33 here, which remains the men’s course record; Lornah Kiplagat’s 1:06:56 is the women’s mark. While Dutch runners featured on many early podiums, Kenyan athletes have dominated recent editions. Women have competed since 1980, when Marja Wokke was the first female winner. The Dutch half marathon championship has been held here multiple times, and the school run is the largest in the Netherlands. Finishers are awarded medals, with on-site engraving available.

About cycling & running in 's-Hertogenbosch

Den Bosch Base Miles

Running: Locals run Den Bosch from the Bossche Broek first, because that old polder sits right beside the city centre. The Bossche Broek route gives you 5 to 8 kilometers, and the loop reaches 10 kilometers when you join it with Vught. The Vught route gives locals an easy 11 to 13 kilometers for a Sunday Z2 run. The Berlicum route stretches the day to about 16 to 18 kilometers. Tante Trail keeps a weekly women’s trailrun going every Saturday morning at 10:00, with 5 or 10 kilometers and all paces welcome. Vestingloop ‘s-Hertogenbosch is the anchor event.

Cycling: Locals ride a flat, route-heavy city, and Den Bosch gives them 1,708 cycling routes to play with. Route #3 keeps things sharp with 20 kilometers and 8 meters of ascent. Rondje meren 40KM gives locals 40.2 kilometers and 45 meters of ascent for clean base miles. ‘s-Hertogenbosch - Oosterbeek gives stronger riders 70.9 kilometers and 163 meters of ascent. Heusden - Schilde gives the closest thing to a gran fondo day with 105.9 kilometers and 166 meters of ascent. De Dieze and HMC Den Bosch are the named club references here. The climbs sit outside town, not in the city centre.

Season: May and June are the best months, and locals really do get on the bike then. Summer gives runners early laps in the Bossche Broek, easy pit stops near town, and longer Vught or Berlicum days before the day gets busy. Rosmalen Grass Court Championships lands in summer too, so the area has that event buzz even when your own plan is just intervals. Winter changes the feel without killing the routine. Locals keep running the city loop and Bossche Broek when the paths are good, and riders lean into flatter Z2, steady canal miles, and cyclocross legs when the weather turns.
